Median and Ulnar Nerves Traumatic Injuries Rehabilitation

چکیده
Peripheral nerves are structures that suffer injuries similar to those seen in other tissues, resulting in important motor and sensory disabilities. It is estimated that the incidence of traumatic lesions is as high as 500.000 cases per year in some countries, where 2,8% of the patients become permanently disabled due to prolonged nerve regeneration time (Noble et al., 1998; Rodrígues et al., 2004)

Reliability of Upper Limb Neurodynamic Tests: Median, Radial and Ulnar Nerves
Objective: in the evaluation of peripheral nerves, upper limb neurodynamic tests are used to assess the mechanical sensitivity of the nerve. However, very little is known about the reliability of upper limb neurodynamic tests, especially for the radial and ulnar nerves. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of neurodynamic tests of the upper extremities including median, radial ...
متن کاملPrevalence of ulnar-to-median nerve motor fiber anastomosis (Riché-Cannieu communicating branch) in hand: An electrophysiological study
Background: Two main muscles studied in the hand for evaluation of median nerve injuries are opponens pollicis (OP) and abductor pollicis brevis (APB). However, Riché-Cannieu communicating branch (RCCB) may limit the use of these muscles in electrodiagnosis. This condition is confusing in the case of median nerve injuries. This study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of RCCB. &...
متن کاملThe Effect of Enalapril, an Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor, on Diabetic Neuropathy: A Double Blind Random–Allocated Study
OBJECTIVE: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common endocrine diseases with micro-vascular complications and is a common cause of polyneuropathy. We studied the effect of enalapril on electrophysiologic criteria and clinical symptoms of patients with type II diabetes and sensory neuropathy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A double blind study was conducted on 45 Patients with type II diabetes and ne...
متن کاملThree cases of referred sensation in traumatic nerve injury of the hand: implications for understanding central nervous system reorganization.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this observational study was to explore whether patients with traumatic peripheral nerve injury of the hand perceive referred sensations; sensations that are perceived to emanate from other areas of the body than the part being stimulated. Referred sensations have been reported following amputation, somatosensory deafferentation, local anaesthesia, stroke, brachial plexus a...
متن کاملPeripheral nerve injuries: a retrospective survey of 456 cases.
This 16-year retrospective study reports the data on 456 consecutive patients with 557 peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) between 1989 and 2004. Most patients were men (74%) and the mean age was 32.4 years. In 83% of cases the PNIs were isolated; combined lesions most commonly involved the ulnar and median nerves. Upper-limb PNIs occurred in 73.5% of cases; the ulnar nerve was most often injured,...
